For the sixth consecutive year, the PR team at V Formation was behind the media-led campaign that shared the good news.
Grant Thornton’s East Midlands Top 200 Report analyses the financial performance of the 200 businesses in Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire that have delivered the greatest, sustained profit growth. It provides the region’s only in-depth study into the East Midlands’ fastest growing companies by key sector and performance indicators, and delivers a barometer of overall economic performance.
In this its seventh year, the Report provides a detailed analysis of the performance of those businesses that have delivered the greatest sustained profit over a three period from 2015 to 2018.
PR Campaign planning began six months before the Report’s scheduled publication in September, when it was to be launched at a series of events across the East Midlands, attended by many of the 200 businesses making the 2019 Report.
Using key stages in the analysis and collation of the data, the V Formation PR team devised a media-led campaign. This began with teaser stories for the local press to raise awareness of the Report’s imminent publication, and the events that were to mark its launch. Always with an eye on communicating the good news far and wide across the region, we were focussed on gaining quality online, print and broadcast media coverage in the most influential and relevant media.
Real life experiences and case studies
We know all too well that adding colour to a story through real life experiences is a key component of any media-led campaign. The companies taking the Top 200 Report’s number one spot in their county location were happy to be featured in both the Report and the press stories.
V Formation was lucky to have the opportunity to interview each of them, and write the focused case studies of these, the East Midlands’ fastest growing businesses. These engaging and insightful case studies were included in the Report, and featured in the suite of press releases written by our PR experts.
Issued to the media to coincide with the events and the Report’s publication via a coordinated, managed campaign, substantial coverage was achieved throughout the week of the Report’s launch. We worked closely with many of our favourite and established media contacts, resulting in coverage of the Report in the local and regional media read by the business and professional communities across the region, including:

The East Midlands 200 top performing businesses have grown:
- profits by an average 30 percent,
- employment by 8.2 percent,
- and together provide over 68,000 jobs.
The top sectors represented in the Top 200 Report are:

- Property and Construction (20 percent)
- Industrial and Manufacturing (18 percent)
- Retail and Leisure (18.5 percent)
- Agriculture, Food and Drink (8.5 percent),Transport and Logistics (5.5 percent)
- Wholesale (5.5 percent)
There are ninety new entrants to the Top 200 this year, and eleven companies returning to the list for the fifth time in seven years.
Of the 200 businesses on the Report, 57 are based in each of Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire, 50 in Derbyshire and 36 in Lincolnshire.
