Nottingham marketing consultancy V Formation recently celebrated its 10th anniversary, with a social event at Nottingham Contemporary. Here we look back on the last ten years and share some photos from the evening.
We established V Formation in April 2007 with a very clear mission: to help businesses find their competitive edge through best practice marketing advice and support. We remain committed to this today, working with clients across the professional services, life sciences and property & logistics sectors to provide thoughtful and effective marketing expertise, often in a part-time marketing director role.
2007 however was arguably the ‘last quiet year’ on the world economic and political stage!
The recession dominated the next three years and that certainly hit marketing budgets hard and changed the marketing landscape– although not always for the worst – as it really did make everyone focus on those marketing activities that would make a difference and deliver a return on investment. This also marked the start of some real traction for digital marketing, an area that we have helped many of our clients to embrace.
The next change point for V Formation came when Sue Carr joined the business, first on a freelance basis in 2011 and then as Hilary’s business partner and director in 2012. We’d always enjoyed working together in our respective in-house roles and had shared values of hard work, humour, resilience and a genuine passion for marketing.
We retained our strong specialism in professional services marketing, whilst Sue’s expertise and affinity for the life sciences sector enabled us to develop a strong specialism in that area of work, and was also the catalyst for our move to BioCity in early 2013.
Since 2013, the business has grown strongly year on year, with the Growth 100 programme proving valuable together with the excellent and supportive accountancy advice that we have received from Doug Perry at Clayton & Brewill. Fortunately for us, no question is too small or too daft for Doug! One constant over the ten years of V has been our fantastic freelance PR expert Diane Wood. We are very grateful to her for her wise counsel.
Over the last twelve months we have welcomed marketing consultants Leah Bradley and Jemma Taylor-Smith to the V Formation marketing team. Those of our clients who have been fortunate to work with Jemma and Leah will know they are very talented marketers, with an abundance of energy, patience and commitment.
The biggest thank you however goes to our growing roster of clients, many of whom have worked with us since the early days of V. We feel privileged to work with so many interesting, successful and thriving businesses and look forward to continuing to support them over the next ten years and beyond.
